Bacon Burger: Paleo Bento Lunch #1

Here is my first ever Paleo Bento lunch!

If you never heard of the Paleo diet, it is where you basically eat like our cavemen ancestors did. You eliminate everything from your diet but meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts and healthy fats/oils. I have been Paleo for 2 months now and I LOVE it. I feel great! I am no longer tired everyday and my stomach feels better than ever! I eat about 80% Paleo so not all things shown in the Paleo lunches will be Paleo. Everyone's body can tolerate different things and what is shown, is just what my body can tolerate.

In this lunch:

  • Bun-less Burger with Bacon and Sauteed Mushrooms
  • 1/3 a Banana
  • Cherry Tomatoes

My First Bento! Toddler Bento #1

Well it's here! Today is the day I start making bentos! Here is my first bento. This is for my son who will be referred to as Gumball from now on :]

I do not use pics in his lunches because he is only 1 and a half so chances are he will either try to eat them and choke or be too distracted by them and not even touch his lunch.

Please bare with me on the lighting of these pics for the next few days, I am still getting the hang of this.

In this lunch:

  • Watermelon and Sandwich Sushi (my first attempt at it, it came out ok, but could def. be better!)
  • GoGo Squeez applesauce pouch
  • Ranch Veggie Straws

Gathering Supplies

Over the past few weeks I have been gathering supplies to start my family's bento journey. I have seen many people making bento lunches for their kids online and knew I HAD to try it! About a year ago I decided to give it a go, but at that time my son was not old enough to eat food and on all the days I did bring food to work with me I ended up getting sick, as I have many gastric related issues. After going to several doctors and adopting a new diet I am now able to eat lunch once again! I am on the Paleo diet and I absolutely love it. All the lunches you see that I make myself will be Paleo friendly. My son and husband are not Paleo however, so I will have some normal fun lunches as well!

I can not wait to start this epic new adventure! All my supplies are ready to go! Lunches will start being made on Friday August the 29th.

Wish me luck!

Ultimate Chicken Finger Bento

I have decided that I am going to go on a diet to try and lose 14 lbs! So this is the last non-salad bento I will be posting in a while! This is one that I ate a few weeks ago, I just did not have the time to post it until now.
In this lunch:
Top: ranch dressing for dipping, scalloped potatoes (sour cream and onion flavor)
Middle: Ultimate Chicken Fingers - These are the best! They are from the recipe on the Bisquick box but you can also find it here.
Bottom: Broccoli

If you are interested in my new diet or how it is going please feel free to check out my personal blog where I will be writing all about it!

Squooshi Pouches

Today I discovered a really neat product on another blog: Squooshi Pouches!

WHAT IS A SQUOOSHI? (From the company site)

"Squooshi is a patent pending reusable food pouch.  They are are adorable and refillable squeeze packs that give you the freedom to give your babies and kids healthy food in a fun container they'll love to use. With a sturdy zip-lock style seal located on the bottom of the pouch and a choke-proof cap, Squooshi reusable food pouches can be filled with whatever squishy wholesome goodness you and your little ones desire for a healthy, on-the go snack or meal. Fill. Eat. Wash. Repeat. It's that easy."

What a great idea! And so cute too! I just love the animals! I Can not wait for my son to start eating solids so I can try all sorts of cute things like these (hopefully we are more financially stable then!).

Lunch Lesson: Paper Cupcake Liners

Paper cupcake cups in bento lunches... they don't work. They look nice at first but when you open up your bento box after being in there for a few hours with the moisture, they basically lose all function. They get wet and loose their shape and turn into a flat circle of wet paper. So when you go to take your food out it basically spills everywhere. I think they may do okay if everything in your meal is dry but they definitely do not work with anything like fruit or veggies. What a mess! I recommend silicon all the way.

Lesson Learned.
